Review: Andaz Mexico City – A Hip, Modern Hotel in Condesa

At a glance:

Opened in Jan 2023, the Andaz Mexico Condesa city is a high-end hotel in one of the cities best neighbourhoods for tourist, while also offering a local experience.

What is actually is: A hip hotel in a great part of the city, the Andaz offers straightforward but modern rooms and some nice amenities.

What it is not: As modern as the brand may suggest it is, it does not live up to what you expect from the Andaz brand in general.

Room: King City View

Time of year: Spring

Scores:

Hotel Design: 86 – The complex in which the Andaz is located feels slightly office-like, but the hotel uses the space well and makes it fun and stylish.

Location: 96 – Condesa is a great area to stay in Mexico City, close to great restaurants and bars and beautiful streets and parks.

Sleep: 86 – Very comfortable with minimal noise.

Service: 73 – Good in general. Failing to notify us in advance of a closure of the rooftop pool and bar for the duration of our stay was a big letdown. Service at breakfast was also weird.

Room Design: 80 – Standard (and slightly small) but otherwise nice. Weird large columns seem present in most rooms.

Room Amenities: 80 – Bal D’Afrique Toiletries. Our (upgraded?) city view on a low floor was pretty average. The snacks were good, and replenished daily. We also booked through Hyatt Prive and had a bottle of sparkling wine provided in our room. The record player with 2 records, including “Mexican Institute of Sound”, was a nice touch!

Hotel Amenities: 72 – Roof and pool were closed for our stay. Otherwise the common areas are nice. We ended up hanging out at Wooftop, their dog friendly terrace area with drinks, food, games, and outdoor seating.

Vibe: 86 – Hip and modern without being too pretentious or feeling like a nightclub. They did try to have a “We’re in Tulum vibe”, on the ground floor dining/bar area, which was a little cheesy.

Cleanliness/Maintenance: 87 – Very good in general.

Value / Extras & Perks: 75 – Our rate included breakfast and an upgrade (but both were disappointing). The price was still generally good for the hotel itself.

OVERALL: 82.1

Would we stay again? Yes
