At a glance:
Advertised as a lifestyle hotel providing “the future of hospitality” the Astra Hotel offers 265 modern guest rooms in the Lake Union area of downtown Seattle.
What is actually is: A nice and slightly more modern Courtyard by Marriott?
What it is not: As innovative and unique as it’s taglines would have you believe.
Room: King room with a view of the Space Needle
Time of the year: Fall
Scores:
Hotel Design: 80 – A simple and straightforward design, with a modern flare that you’d expect from a newer hotel.
Location: 85 – On a quieter side street in the Lake Union area of downtown, the Astra is still walkable to many things in the downtown area.
Sleep: 82 – Generally good, but soft/flat pillows.
Service: 79 – The service provided during our visit was average – nothing stood out either way.
Room Design: 82 – Fresh and bright feeling with large windows and light colors throughout (hopefully this holds up to wear/tear). There is a slight IKEA-esc feeling to the rooms.
Room Amenities: 84 – Modern touches (power blinds, large TV) but still fairly basic. The standalone shower was a standout to us.
Hotel Amenities: 80 – Not many amenities, but the rooftop restaurant/bar is a big draw to both hotel guests and visitors (although our experience there was not great due to the excessively loud music). The Astra really promotes their “robot butler” but we didn’t see it being used during our stay.
Vibe: 79 – The Astra aims high, but falls a bit flat as it still feels like a fairly generic modern business hotel. The scene gets a bit bustling on weekend nights due to the rooftop.
Cleanliness/Maintenance: 89 – No issues encountered.
Value / Extras & Perks: 82 – An upgraded room view, and breakfast credit was provided (which we used at the take-out coffee stand in the lobby). Expensive downtown parking.
OVERALL: 82.2
Would we stay again? If it was the best priced option for our trip, yes.
