At a glance:
Opened in 1975 (and fully renovated in 2014), the Intercontinental Presidente Cancun resort is one of Cancun’s oldest properties with a great location.
What is actually is: An older hotel with a great beachfront location near the centre of Cancun’s tourist zone.
What it is not: Polished, modern or luxurious.
Room: King Classic Terrace Room / King Suite Terrace Ocean View
Time of year: Multiple
Scores:
Hotel Design: 71 – Low marks for the drab, boxy, mostly balcony-less design of most of the hotel. However, the nicely refreshed pool area and beach palapas help to make up for this.
Location: 91 – One of the calmer stretches of beach is immediately in front of the hotel, along with easy access to the bike path and walking distance to Chedraui (groceries).
Sleep: 86 – Comfortable
Service: 82 – A bit hit and miss. We’ve visited twice, and had both very good and very questionable service experiences.
Room Design: 76 – The design is dated, but still very functional and in good shape. There are very limited rooms with terraces, and some of them do not offer any views.
Room Amenities: 81 – As expect (but we make sure to select rooms with at a terrace in advance, as this is really important to us)
Hotel Amenities: 86 – 2 pools, multiple restaurants and bars, a small gym, free bikes rentals and an elite lounge (with outdoor space!).
Vibe: 77 – The overall vibe really varies here – the interior feels rather sterile and business-hotel like, but the outdoor ocean-facing spaces are much more inviting. More urban beach hotel than tropical resort
Cleanliness/Maintenance: 86 – Very clean, and well maintenance for an older hotel.
Value / Extras & Perks: 81 – IC Ambassador and IHG perks were as expected.
OVERALL: 81.7
Would we stay again? Yes, due to how much we like the beach
