At a glance:
OceanBlue Resort is a small 23 room hotel located in a non-tourist area of Barbados. Previously known as “Peach and Calm” the hotel has undergone a restoration and renovation to modernize it.
What is actually is: A great value hotel with an easy going vibe and and old-style charm.
What it is not: Fancy, polished or full-serviced.
Room: Oceanfront King
Time of year: Spring
Scores:
Hotel Design: 83 – Low rise buildings with white washed concrete providing an interesting Greek flair, and plenty of local art
Location: 73 – A local neighbourhood on the rugged coastline south of the airport. A bit far from tourist attractions, most restaurants or swimmable beaches.
Sleep: 76 – Adequate. Nothing wrong, but not memorable either.
Service: 80 – Friendly staff provided straightforward service – no frills. Communications ahead of our stay were great.
Room Design: 79 – Basic, with a large outdoor space and small bathroom. It feels like there’s a lot of potential here – we would stay on the 2nd floor next time.
Room Amenities: 69 – Just the basics (including a mini fridge and safe). We appreciate no televisions – but important to note there’s no fans, hairdryers, tissues or other common items.
Hotel Amenities: 82 – Ocean front pool and small bar and restaurant
Vibe: 90 – Peaceful and relaxing, no crowds – Barbados from another time
Cleanliness/Maintenance: 79 – Clean. The age of the building shows at times, as it can be a bit rough-around-the-edges.
Value / Extras & Perks: 79 – Very reasonable rates. Not much extra here, but the complimentary coffee in the morning is a nice touch. The “resort fee” is an odd addition.
OVERALL: 79
Would we stay again? Yes
