Review: The Cape, A Thompson Hotel – Crashing waves and loud bass

At a glance:

Likely one of Cabo’s more hip & happening hotels, The Cape, A Thompson Hotel by Hyatt offers modern ocean-front accommodations and attracts many party-goers and special events.

What is actually is: A beautiful hotel in stunning location….but also a nightclub.

What it is not: A peaceful retreat.

Room: Ocean View Thompson Suite

Time of year: Spring

Scores:

Hotel Design: 91 – Beautiful modern design with ocean views from everywhere (including from all the rooms). Unfortunately parties at the pool and/or roof are unavoidable due to the hotel layout.

Location: 90 – Close enough to Cabo San Lucas but far enough to feel a bit secluded. The hotel is located on a nice stretch of beach that is tot swimmable beach. There isn’t much within walking distance.

Sleep: 75 – Very comfortable bedding, great AC when needed, ceiling fans and the sounds of crashing waves could have made this a perfect score – but a huge penalty for extremely loud music day and night. Our room was on the 3rd floor and we could still feel the vibrations from the bass on the 6th floor rooftop bar.

Service: 85 – Good in general. Not especially personal for this caliber of hotel though. There were no inquiries regarding our stay, and no follow-up afterwards.

Room Design: 95 – Spacious and stylish – a good mix of modern design with fun Baja Mexico accents without being too much.

Room Amenities: 96 – A huge balcony with amazing views, great shower and separate tub, and spacious walk-in-closet. Mini-fridge didn’t keep things cool, but thankfully an ice-machine was available in the hallway.

Hotel Amenities: 89 – Nice pools (when not crowded), hip (but expensive) dining venues and a nice (but small) gym and spa.

Vibe: 79 – Amazing during quiet times, but the pool party “scene” and roof-top parties (both with extremely loud music) were not for us and (in our opinion) distracted from the spectacular natural beauty.

Cleanliness/Maintenance: 98 – Top notch.

Value / Extras & Perks: 90 – A nice welcome gift, and very good breakfast was included (due to Hyatt status)

OVERALL: 88.8

Would we stay again? probably not due to the noise and there are many other hotel options in the area.
