At a glance:
Built in 1980, and with almost 500 rooms the Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center is longtime fixture in Puerto Vallarta’s hotel and events scene. It’s one of the closest hotels to PVR’s Versalles neighborhood, known for having good food and drinks.
What is actually is: A big, busy hotel catering to a wide range of guests and groups.
What it is not: Tranquil or unique
Room: Ocean View Double with Terrace
Time of year: Winter
Scores:
Hotel Design: 72 – Straightforward and mostly uninspiring. All rooms are deemed to be “oceanfront” but most lack balconies.
Location: 84 – We really like the location for it’s walkability to both the Versalles neighborhood and the Malecon (a bit further away). The beach immediately around the hotel is pretty rocky unfortunately.
Sleep: 81 – Comfortable, but the pillows were very lumpy.
Service: 83 – Service was very good: we arrived early and our room was not ready, but we did receive a phone call when it was (often promised but rarely done).
Room Design: 79 – Pretty basic, but the renovations have made it feel modern despite being a much older building.
Room Amenities: 88 – High marks for the great shower (and shower pressure), along with the nice terrace (although selecting one of the few rooms with this feature was required).
Hotel Amenities: 72 – The pools were often very busy, and while there were a few different options the onsite venues didn’t really appeal to us.
Vibe: 65 – All-inclusive vibe without being all inclusive? Popular for conventions and events, it’s a bit crowded feeling at times. The timeshare sales traps in the lobby are also a really downer!
Cleanliness/Maintenance: 86 – No issues, in good shape for all an older hotel.
Value / Extras & Perks: 79 – Lounge access was provided due to our Marriott Status, but offerings were fairly basic.
OVERALL: 78.9
Would we stay again? Maybe, because it is walkable to Versalles!
