Review: Andaz Scottsdale – Modern and Stylish Desert Oasis

At a glance:

The Andaz Scottsdale Resort and Bungalows is a stylish full service desert resort that offers casita style accommodations on a 23 acre property in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area. With numerous pools, a gym, spa, meeting space, and a restaurant/bar, it appeals to a wide range of guests.

What is actually is: An amazing desert retreat for a relaxing weekend getaway.

What it is not: A typical large resort that feels overrun.

Time of year: Summer (multiple times)

Room: Studio Suite, 1 King Bed (Saarinen)

Scores:

Hotel Design: 97 – A resort set on stunning and expansive grounds with landscaping that accentuate the casita-style rooms and the desert setting.

Location: 85 – Standard for a Scottsdale area resort. Offers a quiet setting with some views of Camelback Mountain.

Sleep: 96 – Close to perfect with an amazing bed, whisper quiet a/c, very serene feel overall due to the art, but the walls could be slightly more soundproof.

Service: 95 – Professional and friendly at all levels. Very responsive when needed.

Room Design: 90 – Unique and modern casita style rooms that offer that simultaneously offer both great light (natural light in the bathroom) and shade (dark living/bedroom area). Room should have a bit more privacy though, like a blind in the patio door that leads top the terrace from the bathroom as the wall seems a little low.

Room Amenities: 92 – Our room has 2 patios, a giant double shower, a mini-fridge, coffee machine, bathrobes, and a safe. Andaz brand specific complimentary mini bar offerings have been reduced to a bag of chips and local orange-pineapple soda. 2 bottles of water were provided.

Hotel Amenities: 91 – Beautiful grounds, 3 pools (geared to difference scenes: party, peaceful, private), 1 well equipped gym, 1 main restaurant and bar and secondary poolside bar/food offerings.

Vibe: 93 – Feels both upscale and casual, and also super chill and with a part vibe, it manages to do a lot of opposing things.

Cleanliness/Maintenance: 95 – After years of visiting, the hotel seems like the first time we have been there without a renovation. Housekeeping and maintenance are pretty high here, but a few minor touch ups are needed, i.e. painting the back patio door.

Value / Extras & Perks: 95 – As Hyatt Globalists, we had exceptional value: a room upgrade, complimentary breakfast, and waived resort and parking fee. The resort fee is high for what if actually offers: 2 free drinks and free coffee in the morning (the most practical of value items). We would rate the value at 80 if you are not a Hyatt Globalist.

OVERALL: 92.9

Would we stay again? Yes!
