Review: The Ritz-Carlton, Mexico City – Luxury city retreat in CDMX

The Ritz-Carlton Mexico City is a luxury high rise hotel that opened in 2021 and has 153 rooms. It is centrally located to many interesting neighbourhoods in the city and offers great views of the city. With a quaint bar, a restaurant, spacious gym, and relaxing spa, it’s a great hotel to relax in between exploring the city.

What is actually is: A luxury full service city hotel.

What it is not: A hotel with local flair, as it feels somewhat generic; you could be in Singapore, New York, London, or any other high rise hotel in a major city.

Hotel Design: 87 – The hotel entrance and lobby are understated for the hotel; feels more like a boutique hotel than a Ritz-Carlton in Mexico City’s business district. Rooms and public areas are all about the expansive views as the lobby is on the 38th floor and all the rooms are above that. The hotel is detached from the city, but in a good way, as you are perched way up above everything; you’re part of it but also disconnected. Due to the design, you often need to take 2 elevators; one to the lobby area and another to the rooms and vice versa to access the gym and spa.

Location: 89 – The hotel is very central to all things, you are in the middle of everything here, but the immediate area outside the hotel is very business district oriented. You can walk to other neighbourhoods, like Condesa and Roma Norte within 20-30 minutes pleasantly.

Sleep: 95 – The bed is very comfortable and the room to room/hallway soundproofing is excellent, as are the blinds. The lack of options to turn off the bedside night light and motion sensor light in the closet is very annoying. The hotel is near a central area with special events, i.e. a running event with loud speakers at 06:00. The windows are also cleaned frequently and that starts quite early.

Service: 91 – Very good but slightly shy of the best and better than other RC’s we have stayed at. Service was sufficient but not proactive, i.e. pre-arrival was fairly non-existent, and we had to ask for late checkout.

Room Design: 95 – Exceptional for a city hotel with panoramic views of the city due to floor to ceiling windows and a wrap around view. Only things that keep it from being perfect are minor things, like better blind controls for partial privacy, dimmers for lights, the bedside light that couldn’t be turned off, and the closet sensor light that always turned on by the bathroom.

Room Amenities: 92 – The exceptional view, the large shower, soaker tub, all the space (more than you can know what to do with), the Dytique toiletries, other things like a shaving kit, bath salts, dental kit, etc. There was a daily turn down service with chocolate and water. There were small things that keep it from being perfect, like the mini bar that was not cold and made everything feel hot, the shower leaked, the hot water temperature was inconsistent, bath salts were not replenished, and they were a little stingy with the boxed water.

Hotel Amenities: 95 – Nice restaurant with good food and views, expansive gym with excellent equipment and views, relaxation pool with sauna and steam room, bar with nice views and daily 6 pm sundowner shots.

Vibe: 90 – Luxury upscale urban club for leisure and business travelers.

Cleanliness/Maintenance: 89 – Very good, but expected slightly more for this brand of hotel.

Value / Extras & Perks: 97 – Very good, as we booked with Marriott Stars and have Titanium access. The complimentary breakfast was very good and they were generous with the offerings, welcome amenity of macaroons and a small bottle of artisanal tequila, upgrade to an executive suite without accepting our SNA, and late checkout to 4pm was honored.
