Scores:
Hotel Design: 85 – The hotel’s exterior is very charming due to its shophouse facade. Inside, it does feel a little dark with some unique design elements that blend Asian, African, and European elements.
Location: 90 – The hotel is located in Tanjong Pajar within the Chinatown area of Singapore. It is conveniently located to transit and the area around the hotel is very interesting and walkable. This was our 5th visit to Singapore and the first time we stayed in this area and explored and we really enjoyed it.
Sleep: 85 – The bed was very comfortable and we did not experience issues with soundproofing.
Service: 85 – Service was excellent – they were able to accommodate an early check-in. Service at the complimentary happy hour was also very good.
Room Design: 84 – Each room design here is unique and photos of other Duxton Duplex suites looks a little different. Our Duxton Duplex suite felt like a loft, with two levels; the ground level was a large living/lounge area and the upstairs had the bedroom, closet, and bathroom. The upper floor area felt a little dark and sparse compared to the lower level with more intricate design. The spiraling staircase added character, but this room type is not recommended for those with children or mobility issues.
Room Amenities: 82 – The room had standard amenities: a nespresso machines, bottled water, a safe, robes, and a well stocked mini bar. They have nice Dyptique toiletries in the bathroom.
Hotel Amenities: 77 – The hotel has a restaurant and a bar that serves as the club lounge during certain times. A pool and gym can be accessed a short walk away at the sister property.
Vibe: 80 – Historic, mysterious, and eccentric, due to all the funky art accents and names like “Opium” to describe some of the room types.
Cleanliness/Maintenance: 80 – Our room was very clean and well maintained.
Value / Extras & Perks: 90 – We received a generous upgrade to a suite, were able to check in early, received a bottle of wine and a hand-written note as a welcome gift, and had access to the generous happy hour at the bar.
OVERALL: 83.8
Would we stay again? Maybe, depending on what other options are available.
