Somewhere Lombok is a member of Design Hotels and just a 20 minute drive away from Kuta. Perched up on a hill with great views, Somewhere is home to 20 standalone villas built in a valley to provide privacy.

What is actually is: A great place to relax in a 4 star casual detached bungalow room with a small plunge pool.

What it is not: Polished. The rooms are very nice, but some things are basic.

Hotel Design: 87 – Modern tropical on a steep hillside with lush landscaping. The villas face the valley and the common area with the reception, pool, and restaurant/bar are stunning with the view of the hills and ocean. There are many steep stairs to access rooms and those with mobility challenges will struggle here. We saw some guests using a scooter to get from their rooms to the reception area for meals and to use the pool.

Location: 86 – Far enough from Kuta to be peaceful, but close enough for easy excursions into town. There isn’t anywhere to walk to within the immediate vicinity of Somewhere. Using the hotel shuttle and/or renting a scooter are necessary if you are leaving the hotel. 

Sleep: 82 – Very good due to how quiet it is, but the AC struggled to keep the room cool.

Service: 95 – Very friendly and personalized service.

Room Design: 85 – A nice private space overall, with some minor drawbacks such as limited coastline views, cooling issues and some unfortunate gaps to let the creepy crawlers in. There is no furniture on the balcony other than the little bench behind the small plunge pool. 

Room Amenities: 86 – A large balcony (with limited seating) also provided a very small plunge pool. Good coffee. The mini-fridge struggled to keep drinks cold. They also use Sensatia toiletries from Bali which are nice and eco-friendly. 

Hotel Amenities: 85 – A beautiful infinity pool overlooking the ocean and small restaurant and bar with excellent food and drinks. We were surprised by the quality of the food here for such a small hotel! We highly recommend trying their tuna sambal matah and mojitos during happy hour. The breakfast was very good and the tofu scramble was a standout dish. The hotel also helps with scooter rentals and tours. We rented a scooter and on delivery, we noticed the gas was empty, but the hotel helped to top us up a little.

Vibe: 86 – Couples exploring Lombok, secluded and peaceful. 

Cleanliness/Maintenance: 89 – Housekeeping was excellent and there were always maintenance staff working on something during the day.

Value / Extras & Perks: 89 – More expensive than most options in the area, a nice breakfast is included and complimentary shuttle service to/from Kuta Lombok was very much appreciated.

OVERALL: 87
