We decided to stay at the Park Hyatt in Siem Reap due to its location, the availability of pool villas and to maximize our benefits as Hyatt Diamond (now Globalist). Upon arrival at check-in, we were offered a refreshing drink from a menu; we chose the iced tea and it was exactly what we needed after a half day of travel. Overall, the check in process was quick and efficient but we noticed a discrepancy with the rate and had to provide our email confirmation/app screen to get it corrected. By the time we arrived to our room, it had been fixed.
Our Pool Villa Suite:
While the hotel has nice pools, we really enjoyed the pool villa as it was quite private and accessible. The outdoor space is also nice if you want to lounge outside and there is a covered area in case of rain with a ceiling fan to ward of mosquitoes. While they do not provide mosquito coils, we requested a mosquito repellent device and they loaned us an electric one.
Overall, we loved the room. The décor was minimal but the pieces and teak accents were well appointed. I really liked the mural over the bed especially and the old books. The bathroom and washroom were so well designed for a travelling couple; I had my own closet and sink area. The toiletries were also nice. Housekeeping was also very consistent and very good. While the room had ceiling fans, there were no screens so we couldn’t sleep with the windows open so we had to use the air conditioning, which we do not like to do but understand the hotel’s design makes it impractical (not a fault of the hotel, just more our personal preference).
The Hotel Restaurant:
We enjoyed the breakfast each morning outdoors. The Cambodian soups were amazing and we still think of them, wishing we could have them for breakfast! The rest of the offerings are nice and those who want to splurge and those who want to stay healthy will find something to their liking. I was somewhat disappointed by the large number of tour groups with breakfast buffet packages due to the excessive wasting of food. While it is a buffet and you can do what you want, wasting excessive amounts of food by bringing half the buffet to your table is inappropriate (this is not just common to this hotel). This is not a fault of the hotel and I just hope anyone guilty of doing that reading this may re-consider their etiquette and actions.
Some evenings, there were special dinners and performances by local groups which were appreciated. While we chose to dine outside of the hotel, we did enjoy the lobby bar in the afternoon during happy hour.
The Bellman:
It is very common to rent bikes in Siem Reap as it is easy to get around. In between excursions, we wanted to rest at the hotel and while there is nowhere to lock your rental bikes, the bellman will let you leave them in front of the hotel and will watch them (we locked ours together during a break) and gave the men a small tip to assist.
The Fitness Centre:
The fitness centre is small but well stocked and not to busy in the morning so you’ll be able to enjoy a good workout.
Summary:
Overall, our stay was very comfortable, luxurious and convenient for the 3 days we were in Siem Reap. The Park Hyatt is centrally located for travelers to explore the city and also access the temples.
