Review: Cathay Pacific’s The Pier Business Class Lounge at HKG

The bar at The Pier at HKG

Maxine and I have been fortunate to experience first class and business class lounges across the world (including the Emirates First Class Lounge at DXB – Dubai Airport) but if there is one lounge that tops our list, it’s Cathay Pacific’s The Pier, Business Class lounge at HKG – Hong Kong International Airport.

During our last 8 hour layover in HKG, we were too lazy to take the train into the city since we flew in from CMB – Colombo on a red eye so we took the opportunity to visit all the Cathay Pacific lounges for business class passengers, in addition to the newly opened AMEX lounge. Saving The Pier for last, we indeed saved the best for last.

So what makes The Pier so special? The Shower rooms and the tea salon! If and when we ever redo our bathroom, we want it to resemble The Pier’s shower room; minimal but functional and luxurious. The rain shower head has the right amount of water pressure and the Aesop toiletries will ensure you stay fresh for a 12 hour flight and work day (we flew from HKG – Hong Kong to YVR – Vancouver and Maxine went to work after the flight).

In the tea room, they have a nice selection of teas and fresh juices to help you rehydrate, especially after a red-eye flight. My favorite is the “Go with The Flow” and Maxine’s favorite is the “Cathay Lullaby”, which is strangely fitting if you know us in real life.

Once you feel refreshed, a visit to the noodle bar is must. Paired with a Betsy Beer, you get the best of both worlds; craft beer and a taste of local food. Betsy Beer is “the world’s first hand-crafted bottled beer brewed to be enjoyed at 35,000 feet”

Who can access this lounge:
