The Ultimate Dining Guide for Barbados!

Fish cutters from Cuzz's Fish Shack

Updated: May 12, 2025

Since we started coming to Barbados, we have been impressed with developments in the food scene. It has grown from the more formal and high-end white table cloth scene to offer more casual and accessible offerings. The range from extremely fancy to very casual and basic has decreased, to offer more in the middle. We are updating our previous post that focused on more affordable dining options to include every place we have eaten at with general information and ratings to help you decide which ones you are interested in.

We have organized the information and quick reviews by location on the island.

Dining Options on the East of the Island

Dis Ole House

  • Location: St. Philip near The Crane
  • Good for: Brunch, lunch, and dinner
  • Last Visit February 2025
  • Cost: $$$
  • Quick Review: Dis Ole House is a Bajan inspired restaurant in a small house with a garden setting. We have enjoyed tacos, salads, fish cakes, ribs, and fish here. Our last visit was very disappointing due to poor service and the menu missing many items, including the ribs that we have come to love throughout the years.
  • Would WLT go back? Probably not

Le Shack

  • Location: St. Philip near The Crane
  • Good for: Dinner
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost: $$$-$$$$
  • Quick Review: Le Shack is a new restaurant that features local and french fusion. On our visit, they did have a long list of specials. Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience here, but would recommend skipping the appetizers and just having the mains. We usually like to share 3-4 appetizers as a meal, and this was not how the appetizers were structured for here. They are walking distance from The Crane and offer transportation.
  • Would WLT go back? Maybe

Zemi Cafe

  • Location: Bathsheba
  • Good for: Lunch
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost: $$$-$$$$
  • Quick Review: Zemi Cafe is located in Bathsheba, on the east coast of Barbados. It can be a challenging ride due to road conditions, but is worth it for the delicious food and setting with picturesque views. We really enjoyed our lunch here and would come back again to try more things. We especially loved the ceviche served with local breadfruit chips, the salad that featured produce grown in Bathsheba, and they might have the best fish cakes on the island!
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Zen Thai and Japanese Restaurant

  • Location St. Philip at The Crane
  • Good for: Dinner
  • Last Visit: February 2022
  • Cost: $$$$
  • Quick Review: Zen is located at The Crane and serves Japanese and Thai food. It is known as “the best sushi” on the island but we have found the prices to be very high for varying quality of sushi. We are very spoiled by amazing (and much more affordable) sushi in Vancouver and can skip this, but we understand some might enjoy it.
  • Would WLT go back? No

Cutters

  • Location: St. Philip near The Crane
  • Good for: Breakfast, lunch, and take away prepared meals
  • Last Visit: February 2018
  • Cost: $$- $$$
  • Quick Review: Cutters is located in St. Philip near The Crane and offers up a variety of meals for breakfast, lunch, and take-home dinners. The menu is focused on cutters (aka as sandwiches) and snacks. Most travel guides say it’s a must-visit, but we find it a little overhyped and have been a bit underwhelmed by the food. They do have excellent rum punch and hot sauce though!

Dining Options on the South of the Island

Deia Beach

  • Location: Maxwell Beach
  • Good for: Brunch, lunch, and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $$$-$$$$
  • Quick Review: Deia Beach is a beach club restaurant located on the beach. They have a diverse menu that will appeal to most people. We really enjoyed the food and setting here on both of our visits, but the music was a little loud. You can also rent chairs/umbrellas and use the pool for a fee.
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Epic Surf Cafe

  • Location: Oistins
  • Good for: Breakfast and coffee
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $
  • Quick Review: Epic Surf Cafe is a great place to grab a delicious and healthy smoothie bowl and coffee on your way to the beach. They have some of our favorite coffee on the island. Cash and card are accepted.
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Dreadhop Brewing

  • Location: Christ Church
  • Good for: Lunch, dinner, pub snacks
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost: $-$$
  • Quick Review: Dreadhop Brewing is a short drive away from Enterprise Beach and is Barbados’ first craft brewery! In addition to their beer on tap, they also have some pub fare available. We had the spicy BBQ wings with fries and really enjoyed it. They also have events, like trivia and live music sometimes.
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Lisa’s Rotis and Doubles

  • Location: Worthing, Oistins, and Kendal Hill
  • Good for All day snacks, good for takeout
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost: $
  • Quick Review: Lisa’s Rotis and Doubles serves up delicious rotis and doubles from a few small food carts in Worthing, Oistins, and Kendal Hill. The service, food, and price are always excellent! We like to grab some rotis and doubles and have them by Worthing Beach with a cold Deputy from one of the nearby beach bars.
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Rock’n Roosters

  • Location: Sheraton Mall (Oistins)
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner, takeout
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $
  • Quick Review Located in Sheraton Mall, Rock’N Roosters makes amazing rotisserie chicken, which you can order on their own or with sides. The chicken comes in barbcue, teriyaki, and jerk (our favorite!). We’ve eaten here twice and it has been very consistent: high quality food, generous portions, and tasty sides that are not an afterthought. Cash and card are accepted.
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Cuz’s Fish Stand

  • Location: Carlisle Bay
  • Good for: Lunch
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $
  • Quick Review: Located on Brownes Beach in scenic Carlisle Bay, Cuz’s Fish Shack is a small food stand that’s an institution. They have been serving up the Bajan fish cutter for about 40 years to locals and tourists, and is arguably the best fish cutter on the island. The menu is pretty basic: single or double cutter, with or without cheese, and you can add sauce to your liking. Cash only! **The hours here can be somewhat irregular and it will not always be open as expected.

Irie Foods

  • Location: St. Lawrence Gap
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $$-$$$
  • Quick Review: Located in the St Lawrence Gap, Irie Foods serves up Jamaican food for eat in or take-out. In the past, we have enjoyed jerk pork, jerk chicken, escoveitched fish, and rotis. They do have a decent patio if you are going for dinner. We visited in April 2025 after not going for a few years and we were a little disappointed by some of the menu changes. We did enjoy the food but feel it has changed from what we really enjoyed in the past.
  • Would WLT go back? Maybe, but leaning to no.

Sahara Arabic Grill and Falafel

  • Location Sheraton Mall (Oistins)
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner, takeout
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost: $$
  • Quick Review: Now located in Sheridan Mall, Sahara offers Middle Eastern food for those wishing to dine in or takeout. The menu offers a variety of grilled meats and vegetarian options that are served in wraps, as plates with sides, and snacks. A couple downsides are that their online ordering system doesn’t work if you don’t have a local number and credit card payments incur an additional fee (but we appreciate being able to pay with card). On our last visit, we found that the price increase and quantity decrease were disappointing.
  • Would WLT go back? Maybe, but unlikely
  • Lamb platter with tabbouleh and hummus from Sahara
  • Menu and food counter at Sahara Arabic Grill and Falafel

Surfer’s Cafe

  • Location: Oistins
  • Good for: Brunch, lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $$
  • Quick Review: Located on Welches Beach in the Oistins area, Surfer’s Café is a full-service all-day dining restaurant with lovely views of the ocean in a laid-back casual atmosphere. They offer some more Bajan inspired things, like fish cakes and buljol, alongside some general pub style things. We really like the fish tacos! Service can be extremely slow at times. We are not sure if they changed the cook, but the fish tacos were noticeably much better during our last meal in April 2025 compared to previous meals.

Oistins Fish Fry

  • Location: Oistins
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $-$$
  • Quick Review: Located in Oistins between Welches Beach and Rockley Beach, Oistins Fish Fry showcases the daily catch and Bajan culinary delicacies in a lively setting, especially on Friday nights. In the past, Oistins Fish Market was just that, a fish market where Bajans came to buy fish and then someone had the idea of opening a food stall to sell fried fish and it has since grown to become a Caribbean party where Bajans and tourists eat, drink and act merry on weekend nights. At the Oistins Fish Fry, the food and drinks are sold and served by individual food stalls but you can pretty much sit anywhere to eat and drink.

Bliss Cafe

  • Location: Oistins
  • Good for: Breakfast and lunch
  • Last Visit: February 2018
  • Cost: $$
  • Quick Review: Located in the St. Lawrence Gap area near Dover Beach, Bliss Cafe is a family run cafe that serves breakfast and lunch in addition to a wide range of healthy and indulgent drinks. We have heard good things about their jerk chicken flatbread and it is on our list of things to try! There is indoor and outdoor seating and the space is modern and airy. Credit card is accepted.

Chicken Rita’s

  • Location: Christ Church
  • Good for: Dinner
  • Last Visit: February 2018
  • Cost $-$$
  • Quick Review: Located just past Enterprise Beach near Silver Sands, Chicken Rita’s is part rum shop and restaurant. It is a beloved institution serving up fried chicken and sometimes fried fish with chips, salad and macaroni pie for dinner. Service can be very slow.

Tapas

  • Location: Hastings (near Rockley Beach)
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: February 2016
  • Cost $$$$
  • Quick Review: Located near the Richard Haynes boardwalk by Rockley Beach, Tapas is an upscale oceanfront restaurant. The menu has a selection of small plates and larger entrees complemented by a selection of wines, cocktails, and craft beers. This would be a good special occasion dinner spot for sunset.
  • Would WLT go back? No

Lemongrass Express

  • Location: Worthing
  • Good for Lunch, dinner, take away
  • Last Visit: February 2018
  • Cost: $$-$$$
  • Quick Review: Located in Worthing, Lemongrass Express is a small food cart offering Thai food – mostly noodle and rice dishes. We found the price tag a little high for the quality of the food that was a little bland for our palate.

  • Cost: $$$
  • Quick Review: The Animal Flower Cave Restaurant setting is spectacular, as you get to watch the Atlantic surf wash up on limestone cliffs on the north coast of Barbados. The menu has a wide range of things from more bajan things, like saltfish buljol, to western Caribbean curries, rotis, and things like caesar salad and poutine.

  • Location: All over the island
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: May 2010
  • Cost $$
  • Quick Review Located in a few locations on the island, BBQ Barn is part of the Chefette chain. It’s a fast-casual restaurant with a variety of things, from grilled chicken and steak plates to quesadillas, wings, and others.
  • Would WLT go back? No

Chefette

  • Location: All over the island
  • Good for: All day dining, takeout
  • Last Visit: February 2025
  • Cost $
  • Quick Review: Chefette is a local fast-food chain with locations all over the island. They have standard fast-food offerings. Their broasted chicken (more or less fried chicken) roti, chicken burgers, and ice cream are pretty decent. Many things close early on Sundays in Barbados, but Chefette is consistently open, and a decent back-up. We recommend using the online ordering system and making sure every item you ordered is included before leaving the restaurant (they shorted us 3 rotis).
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Just Grillin’

  • Location: Holetown and Bridgetown
  • Good for: All day dining, takeout
  • Last Visit: August 2010
  • Cost: $-$$
  • Quick Review: Just Grillin’ is a casual restaurant that offers grilled meats and seafood at affordable prices. We enjoyed having a meal here due to the nice patio setting, the quality of the food, and the reasonable pricing. We think it is a great option for families as the menu has things that will appeal to most.

Dining Options on the West of the Island

La Cabane

  • Location: Batts Rock Beach
  • Good for: Brunch, lunch, and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost $$$-$$$$
  • Quick Review: La Cabane feels a little like a beach club but without the really loud and obnoxious music. It’s a place to enjoy a nice meal with a view of the water with your toes in the sand. We had lunch here twice and enjoyed both experiences very much, but we have not tried it since they changed the menu and now host DJs. They also introduced a $30BD cancellation fee per person for reservations canceled less than 12 hours prior.

La Plage

  • Location: Speightstown
  • Good for Lunch and drinks
  • Last Visit February 2025

  • Would WLT go back? Yes

Caboose

  • Location: Speightstown
  • Good for: Lunch
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost $
  • Quick Review: Caboose is a great place to grab a fish cutter and beer or rum punch near Heywoods Beach. It has limited hours and gets very busy; we arrived at 11:00 on a weekend day for opening and there was already a line. Their fish cutter was freshly made to order and tasted very healthy. Make sure to ask for hot sauce – they will add it for you!
  • Would WLT go back? Yes

The Roti Den

  4. Cost: $
  5. Quick Review: Located near Mullins Beach, CiCi’s is a small beach bar with some pretty delicious food. They have small snacks like fish cakes and more substantial meals like grilled chicken, fish, stews served with sides. There isn’t a bathroom and there is limited seating in the shade during peak sun/heat.
  6. Would WLT go back? Yes

Local and Co

  • Location: Speightstown
  • Good for: Lunch and dinner
  • Last Visit: April 2025
  • Cost: $$$$
  • Quick Review: Part beach club, restaurant, and bar, Local and Co offers up an upscale dining experience in Speightstown. They describe themselves as a farm-to-table restaurant with an ever changing menu, they try to use as many local products as possible. They have a selection of small plates, crudos, salads, and larger plates, making it a good option for a lighter tapas style meal. The seating can be a little cramped in spots and the indoor seating does feel dark in contrast to the airy and bright outdoor seating.
