Since our first stay at Lone Star Court in Austin, we’ve become fans of Valencia Group hotels and their “court” hotel concept that combines luxury boutique hotel with a casual motel-style atmosphere with access to outdoor space to relax and have fun. Texican Court is the 3rd Valencia Group hotel we’ve stayed at and in this post we share a detailed review of the hotel.

Location:
Texican Court is located in Irving Texas; it’s about a 15 minute drive from DFW – Dallas Fort Worth Airport and across the street from the Irving Convention Centre and Toyota Music Factory. Despite being close to the airport, the hotel doesn’t offer a shuttle so you need to drive or grab a ride (taxi or Uber/Lyft).
Property Overview:
There are 152 rooms at Texican Court:
- Classic rooms with interior access and choice of a custom king bed or two-full-size beds.
- Deluxe rooms near the pool and fire pits with a share wrap around porch and rocking chairs. This room type also includes a large bathroom with walk-in shower. Choice of a custom king bed or two-full-size beds.
- Junior Suites with a wraparound porch and rocking chairs and a view of the courtyard, pool and fire pits. This category of room also includes a sofa, dining table for four, oversized bathroom with a walk-in shower and bathtub.
- Presidential Suite with a wraparound porch and rocking chairs and view of the courtyard. There are two rooms with separate living and bedroom area, 2 flat screen televisions, oversized bathroom with a walk-in shower and bathtub.
All rooms are pet-friendly and include complimentary Wi-Fi and continental breakfast.

All rooms have a well-stocked mini-bar with alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and snacks. For example, a can of craft beer costs about $5.00 which is pretty reasonable.
Amenities:
Valet parking is available as is free self-parking. It is really easy to park and just walk though so the valet option is not really worth it.
Guests are also offered a complimentary drink on check-in: bottled water or a Lone Star beer.
The property has outdoor fire pits and fireplace, a corn hole game in the courtyard, a circular swimming pool, bikes to borrow, a fitness centre, live music on weekends, a Tequila bar, Two Mules Cantina restaurant, and a large meeting/event space to host events.

Our Stay:
We stayed two nights in a Deluxe Room with a custom king bed on the ground floor facing the courtyard where the fire place is. As we entered the room, our first impressions were that it was really nice and stylish and similar to Lone Star Court. We were surprised and appreciative of the snack platter and bottle of wine left for us as a treat by the front desk!

The bed was just as comfortable and luxurious as Lone Star Court’s which ensured we’d have a good night’s sleep and we did! We also found Texican Court a little quieter than Lone Star Court since our room was facing the courtyard away from the pool.

The room most definitely had everything we love about Lone Star Court but also some minor improvements, like a bench in the shower, more water pressure, a more powerful ceiling fan, and lights and a/c are turned on by placing your card in a holder. We did find the air conditioning unit was a little loud though, which is the only negative thing we experienced in the room.

We also found the outdoor space more private due to how it is divided into about 3 areas: the pool area, the courtyard area where the fireplace is, and the fire pit area near Two Mules Cantina and the event spaces.

The Tequila bar is also nice and looks trendy and we were surprised to see there is a happy hour daily from 16:00-19:00. We decided to visit and order margaritas and enjoyed them by the fire. You can also purchase S’mores kits for a fun snack reminiscent of when you were a kid.

Breakfast is served at Two Mules from about 7:00-10:00 on weekends and 06:30-09:30 on weekdays. The complimentary breakfast includes fresh fruit, a selection of cereal, baked goods like biscuits, and juice.

We used the pool and were quite surprised at how refreshing the water was due to how warm it was outside, it definitely wasn’t warm like bath water which was great! If there is one thing, we found the pool a little small for the size of the hotel much like Lone Star Court and Cavalry Court’s pools. The pool is also only open from 10:00-22:00 which we can understand why since it is in front of some rooms and could lead to noise complaints.
Overall:
We absolutely loved our stay at Texican Court and will definitely stay here again when we are in Dallas. Last time, we stayed at the Nylo which has since been acquired by Hilton and while we did enjoy our stay, it just can’t beat or compare to Texican Court.

We can imagine how busy Texican Court gets during conferences and special events but also see it appealing to locals who want a nice stay-cation or even travelers who don’t want a conventional hotel experience. As we work towards our Lifetime Platinum status with Marriott, each night spent at a non-Marriott brand is a decision we take seriously but we never regret staying at one of the Valencia Groups court hotel because they offer such unique experiences and the same luxury and comfort as high-end hotels. We also commend Valencia Group hotels for not charging resort fees (which they could), offering food and beverage onsite at reasonable prices, and offering guests the option to enjoy their own food beverage onsite in the courtyard. We’ve just found out that Valencia Group is opening Cotton Court in Lubbock Texas in 2020 and we hope to go stay there too one day!
If you’re looking for a fun place to stay and outdoor space is important to you, Texican Court is a hotel for you!
