Stay: A Review of Civic Hotel, Autograph Collection in Surrey (British Columbia)

Civic Hotel - Surrey City Center

The Civic Hotel is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection portfolio. Located in Surrey City Centre (about a 45 minute drive south of Vancouver), this newish 144 room high-rise hotel is one of the nicest hotels to stay in this area. In this post, we share more information about the Civic Hotel.

Our Stay:

We stayed here for 1 night when they were completing work on our condo due to flood damage. We chose to stay here because we love Autograph Collection hotels, the rate was really reasonable for the hotel and the parking, and we’ve been curious about what Surrey is like. We earned about 10,000 Marriott points for our 1 night stay due to various promotions for bonuses!

We requested to be upgraded to a corner room but they were only available on lower floors so we opted for a basic room on a high floor. Our City King room was located on the 21st floor and faced west for nice views of the sunset. Despite facing away from the SkyTrain, it was a little noisy with sirens and random people screaming at 04:00 (not the hotel’s fault and to be expected in major urban centers).

The room is small at 340 square feet but it is well designed and super comfortable. The design is modern and incorporates local accents. The bed was really comfortable and the linens really good quality. We really liked having a desk area as well as a lounging area too.

The bathroom has a separate room for the toilet, a shower but no rainforest showerhead, and a sink area. Our room was equipped with a coffee pod machine with Illy coffee. The room does not have a fridge which is a bit of a downside especially right now when you want to bring your own food to avoid eating out.

As Titanium members, we were offered a $10 food and beverage credit or 1,000 points as a welcome gift on check-in; we opted for the points. As for breakfast, we were offered the BC breakfast which was delivered to our room. The food is made at the in-house restaurant Dominion Bar + Kitchen that is currently open for patio dining during lunch and dinner and take-out/room service.

We were really impressed by the breakfast overall; everything was well-prepared and seasoned, the portion generous and we are not sure how they made it, but the grilled tomato was spectacular! We were so impressed with the food, we had dinner on the patio and enjoyed their pizzas.

The heated outdoor pool and hot tub is open and available for 1 hour bookings between 08:00-20:00 (if we recall). Guests can book 1 hour time slots to be shared with other guests and residents (there is a residential tower that accesses the amenities). The fitness room is currently closed. You can also order food and drinks from Dominion to be delivered to the pool during your reservation. The hotel does provide plush bath robes but you need to request towels for the pool area separately as they are not kept in the change rooms.

Underground parking was $13 and easily accessible. You can find some street parking for cheaper or free but we are not sure it is worth the hassle. There are some walkable things in the area but you will probably want in and out parking garage privileges during your stay depending why you are there.

Summary:

Overall, we really enjoyed out stay at the hotel and we enjoyed being able to relax in the comfortable room and use the pool to escape the noise and fumes while they were completing work at home. Unless you want to enjoy a staycation or need to be in the area, there isn’t all that much to do in Surrey. We were content hanging out at the hotel and eating at Dominion. The Civic Hotel has great service and is well managed, making it a great option for those who are staying in Surrey.
