Review: Zannier Bai San Ho – Rustic-Luxury Beach Resort in Phu Yen, Vietnam

At a glance:

Tucked away on a private bay in the Phu Yen province miles from any other resorts, the Zannier Bai San Ho is a truly unique resort, offering guests a dreamy beach vacation set on a scenic hillside resort village with rice paddies.

What it actually is:  A secluded, low-key luxury resort that blends beautiful natural surroundings with stylish and traditional design, and has a strong focus on local food and culture.

What it is not:  A typical resort in any way. It’s also not inexpensive: food, drinks, and activities add up quickly here.

Room: One Bedroom Hill Pool Villa

Time of year: Spring

Scores:

Hotel Design: 98 – Probably best described as rustic-luxury; there’s nothing cookie-cutter or generic to be found on this property, which focuses on sustainability and blending in with its natural surroundings.

Location: 96 – Secluded, which is likely why you are coming here, as the beautiful private beach and surrounding hillside are the main draw here. Otherwise, only small local villages are nearby.

Sleep: 97 – Quiet and comfortable. Wonderful overall.

Service: 94 – Always professional and  friendly. Service at dinner suffered slightly when things got busy each night.

Room Design: 97 – Bamboo floors, thatched/tiled roofs and natural earth tones contribute to the overall rustic-luxury design. Well-positioned windows frame the views perfectly. The floor did require you to wear slippers most of the time, as some of the bamboo can give you slivers.

Room Amenities: 100 – A huge private pool and terrace complimented a spacious interior with all the modern amenities you need.

Hotel Amenities: 94 – An amazing private beach, spacious main pool and sprawling natural grounds were highlights. The only minor downsides were pricey local activities, lack of bikes to use on-site (at the time of our stay), and limited operations for some of the dining venues.

Vibe:  95 – Very chill and peaceful.

Cleanliness / Maintenance:  97 – Spotless and generally very well maintained. Exterior stairs leading to the room need to be touched up in some spots.

Value / Extras & Perks:  93 – The included breakfast was delicious, and we loved the nightly turn-down tea service. Prices are pretty high, but the quality of both the accommodations, and the food are worth the price of admission.

OVERALL: 96.1

Would we stay again? Yes
