Fern Fall is a free standing tiny house Airbnb located in Qualicum Beach Canada. We do not usually review single unit vacation rentals, we thought this rental was both special and unique enough to share with you. In this post, we share information about this Airbnb listing to help you decide if you want to stay here.
1 – Location: 9/10

Fern Fall Airbnb is located on the hosts 5 acre property surrounded by trees on a quiet residential street with other homes and some with small farms. Qualicum Beach town centre is accessible within a 5 minute drive, a 20-30 minute walk, or a 10 minute bike ride. The walk is quite lovely as there are paths in the forest shared with bikes. It is also about a 5 minute drive to the beach where you can take some beach towels and bath mats to relax and swim.
Overall, the location of the Aribnb provides seclusion and privacy but also convenient access to things like the Saturday Farmer’s market, shops, restaurants, etc.
2 – Bed and Sleep Quality: 9/10
Fern Fall has a queen bed with high quality bedding and bamboo pillows. The unit is also equipped with an air conditioning unit, heat, and heated floors. Your body and mind will revel in sleeping on a very comfortable mattress with soft linens while gazing at the forest just steps away, and the stars on a clear night. We were lulled to sleep by the soothing sounds of the crickets in the forest and did not need any ear plugs to block out noise that would make it difficult to sleep.
We found the property to be very quiet and serene. We can appreciate the lack of speakers or a television to allow you to enjoy being part of nature.
It is worthy noting that there are no blinds for the windows or door. While it may seem odd to sleep without blinds, and it does take some getting used to, the host does provide eye masks for guests. If you need to sleep in a completely dark room and eye masks don’t suffice, this may not be a place for you to get restful sleep.
3. Room and Room Amenities: 9/10
Fern Fall is a 240 square foot modular tiny home. The Airbnb description says it is thoughtfully laid out, and this is correct. Overall, the unit feels much larger than it is.
The space in the unit is very well designed to maximize the design aesthetic and comfort. The unit has Scandinavian style to it with luxury cottage attributes, for a glamping experience.
The bedroom and kitchen area are in one space and there is adequate storage in the closet and under the bed. The kitchen has a sink, a high functioning fridge/freezer, basic kitchenette items to make a simple cold meal supplemented by a BBQ outside, an insulated growler to be filled at Fern and Cedar, interesting books to read, and a useful recommendation guide to help guests enjoy the area.
The bathroom is spacious and equipped with good quality shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. There is also storage and cleaning supplies under the bed.
One of our favorite things about Fern Fall was access to outdoor space on the large deck to relax in the forest. There is a small bistro set, a hammock, outdoor chairs, a fire pit, a BBQ, and access to trails on the property.
4. Host: 10/10
Overall, we found the host Dana to be exemplary. She communicated well and gave us lots of useful instructions and we appreciated the welcome tour to help us get oriented with the unit and property. Dana and her family generously share their property with guests and we did enjoy walking around the trails and picking some blackberries. The unit was spotless and we could tell it is being well maintained and cleaned thoroughly as we did not have to do any spot cleaning of our room at all.
5. Overall Value: 9/10
We found that Fern Fall was a high quality Airbnb and our experience was seamless. We appreciated the 3:00 pm check-in and 3:00 pm checkout, making it a very convenient weekend getaway from Vancouver. It was also one of the better stocked Airbnbs that we have stayed at as far as having soaps, hair shampoo/conditioner, high quality bedding, towels, cleaning supplies, the BBQ, the outdoor fire pit, and the well-stocked kitchenette.
Total: 46/50
